A Fresh Coat of Panther Pride: IB Student Revitalizes Library Mural
Student Writer: Harry Umandap
Within the walls of the Lecanto High School library, a long-standing tradition continues to thrive. For nearly a decade, the stairway walls have displayed colorful murals painted by students, each a reflection of the graduating classes who came before. Whether ascending to the top floor or descending to the bottom, visitors can’t help but notice the vibrant tribute to Panther creativity and spirit.
Now, as the final open spaces on the stairway begin to disappear and years have passed since the last addition, a new generation is stepping forward to continue the legacy. Inspired by the dedication of her predecessors, International Baccalaureate student Lucine Li has taken the initiative to organize the mural’s complete refurbishing.
Lucine’s vision is both respectful of the past and innovative in design. She plans to replace the aging artwork with a unified concept that complements the library’s existing ocean-themed décor. Her mural will feature a variety of marine life, symbolizing depth, movement, and continuity. “I wanted to continue the mural’s collaborative spirit while also revitalizing its appearance,” Lucine shared.
The project is truly a collective effort. Seniors from the Lecanto School of the Arts and members of the National Art Honor Society, including its president, have volunteered their talents to bring the design to life. Supported by Principal LaBarbara, Coach Rausch, and peers alike, the mural’s transformation is set to honor past artists while inspiring future ones.
Through her service leadership and creativity, Lucine is leaving behind more than just paint on a wall, she’s leaving a legacy. Her work serves as a reminder that Panther pride is not just seen in banners or colors, but in the enduring collaboration, imagination, and community spirit that define Lecanto High School.

Student Writer: Shaidan Belliveau
The Crystal River Pirates delivered an outstanding performance against the Central High School Bears in a thrilling matchup that kept fans on their feet from start to finish. From game-winning plays on the field to the spirited support from the cheer team and the powerful presence of the Marching Pirates band, the atmosphere under the Friday night lights was nothing short of electric.
As the final whistle blew, the Pirates celebrated their hard-earned victory in true Pirate fashion. After exchanging “good games” with the Bears, the players and cheerleaders joined the band for the alma mater, swaying together with smiles and pride. The unity and school spirit in that moment perfectly captured what it means to be part of the Pirate family.
Throughout the game, teamwork and enthusiasm were on full display from every corner of the field. The cheer team kept the crowd energized through every quarter, encouraging the team and lifting spirits with their chants and stunts. Meanwhile, the Marching Pirates band filled the stadium with energy, playing the fight song after every first down and touchdown. Their powerful sound boosted the Pirates’ momentum and gave the defense an extra edge, creating an atmosphere that was both exciting and intimidating for the opposing team.
The Pirates’ victory over Central High was more than just a win—it was a celebration of dedication, teamwork, and school pride. The event showcased the collaboration between athletes, cheerleaders, musicians, and fans who all share the same passion for representing Crystal River High.
Friday night’s game will be remembered as one of the highlights of the 2025–26 school year—a true testament to the strength of Pirate spirit, both on and off the field.
