CCSD Taking Precautionary Steps Following Canvas Security Incident

Posted Date: 05/08/26 (10:18 AM)

Parents/Families/Staff:

The Citrus County School District is making you aware of a recent cybersecurity incident involving Instructure, the provider of the Canvas Learning Management System used by many educational organizations nationwide.

Canvas (Instructure) has indicated the information involved is limited to basic user details, such as name and email address. The company has implemented additional security measures in response.  As an added precaution, Citrus County School District has temporarily disabled access to Canvas while we work to ensure student information remains secure and uncompromised.
We are actively monitoring the situation and working with our technology team and partners to evaluate any potential impact.

At this time, no action is required by students, families, or staff.  Citrus County School District has existing technical safeguards in place that significantly limit student email communication from outside, non-district entities. These safeguards help reduce exposure to phishing attempts, spam, or unsolicited contact, even in the event of a third-party vendor security incident.

Our priority is the security and privacy of our students and staff. We appreciate your patience and understanding and we will share additional information when available.  Graphic announcing 'DISTRICT TECHNOLOGY UPDATE' with social media icons.
