Superintendent's Message

Every Day, Every Student: The Work Behind the Mission
I am often asked to explain the role of the Superintendent and felt it important to share it with the community. This role is often viewed through the lens of board meetings, budgets, and big decisions. While those responsibilities are certainly part of the job, the true heartbeat of this work lies in the daily interactions with students, staff, and our community. No two days are ever the same, but each day is focused on ensuring every student has opportunities to develop a pathway that works best for them.
My day typically begins early in the morning looking over my daily schedule and taking time to review the district budget. With enrollment fluctuations and the responsibility to maximize every dollar, it is critical to monitor spending, staffing, and program needs on a daily basis. This work ensures that we remain fiscally responsible while continuing to invest in what matters most: our students, our staff, and the programs that support their success.
Throughout the day I will touch base with school district leaders. These daily conversations are essential. They provide an opportunity to discuss what is happening across the district from academic performance and school operations to transportation, safety, and staffing. This approach allows us to stay aligned, respond quickly to challenges, and ensure that our decisions are strategic and focused on student needs.
Some days I will start my day at a school site. This is without question the most important part of my work. Visiting schools, meeting with principals, and connecting with school-based leaders provides invaluable insight into the day-to-day realities of our classrooms. Our principals are instructional leaders, and taking time to listen to them, support them, and understand their needs is critical to the success of our entire district.
