Every Journey Begins Here...

No Off Days: Volleyball Team moves on to Club

By Student Writer: Izabel Clemens

The gym lights never really go out for the girls who play volleyball in Citrus County. Even as the official season fades into memory, the players are right back on the court, diving, setting, and grinding through tough practices. Their persistence during the offseason makes one thing clear: these girls are chasing the next level.

Following everyone's run as County Champions and District, most teams faced another early postseason exit. Yet rather than letting disappointment define them, these girls are using the offseason as a source of motivation. Each athlete is determined to refine her skills, strengthen her mindset, and return stronger when next fall’s season begins.

Many players have joined club programs such as Citrus Fusion Volleyball to gain year-round experience and exposure. “I did club to keep myself busy, have fun, and get better at hitting and spiking,” said senior Abigail Tate, reflecting the team’s shared focus on development and consistency.

This past season, the Panthers showed noticeable growth in communication, teamwork, and overall performance, coaches say, reflecting their dedication and willingness to put in the work long before the first serve of the year.

With the graduation of several seniors on the horizon, the Citrus County underclassmen are already stepping up. Their commitment during the offseason ensures that the program’s foundation remains strong and its future promising.

Even though these athletes fell short of their regional goal this year, their perseverance and passion continue to shine. Balancing teamwork with individual improvement, these athletes are building toward something bigger, laying the groundwork for a return to Regionals and perhaps a run at States in 2026.

Crystal River High School Marching Pirates Earn “Excellent” at MPA

 By Student Writer: Shaidan Belliveau

The Crystal River High School Marching Band had their last performance of the marching band season and achieved an “Excellent” rating at the Marching Music Performance Assessment (MPA), showcasing our hard work and talent. This accomplishment reflects the dedication the band members, staff, and supportive band parents have.

Our performance demonstrated our musical skill and precision in marching, earning us high praise from the judges. From the very first note to the final formation, every member played a vital role in bringing our show to life. The hours spent rehearsing after school, perfecting music, and refining drill movements truly paid off on the field.

Band Director Mr. Ramsey shared his pride in the group, noting how far the ensemble has come this season: “The students’ growth, teamwork, and spirit have been incredible to watch. Their ‘Excellent’ rating is well-deserved and a reflection of their commitment to each other and to our program.”

This achievement highlights the band’s commitment to excellence and the positive impact of music education in our school. Beyond the trophies and ratings, the experience of performing, collaborating, and building lifelong friendships defines what it means to be a part of the Marching Pirates.

As the season comes to a close, the band looks forward to future performances, including concert season and community events. The excitement and energy from this success will continue to motivate members to reach even higher goals next year.

This success also serves as inspiration for younger musicians in our middle schools who are eager to join the Marching Pirates one day. With each new season, the program continues to grow stronger, carrying on a proud tradition of excellence, school spirit, and musical artistry at Crystal River High School.
