Become a Safety Volunteer!

In addition to having a School Resource Officer on every public-school campus, the school board unanimously approved Tuesday during its regular board meeting, a new volunteer program geared towards having another set of eyes and ears on every campus – focused on security.

Safety Volunteers will be highly visible on school campuses with responsibilities including campus and perimeter security checks.  The safety volunteer will work with school administration and other school personnel to ensure various safety measures are being utilized daily.

Who are we looking for?

  • Previous security/law enforcement/military experience preferred
  • Successfully complete District Volunteer Training
  • Successfully complete additional Safety Training
  • Pass extensive background check
  • Provide references, professional preferred

These volunteers are not to be confused with the continuing national conversation of school guardians.  These volunteers will NOT be armed and will follow the guidelines of all other volunteers.

“This is just another proactive step in safeguarding our schools,” says Superintendent Sam Himmel.  “We are looking for active community members who have a vested interest in our schools.”

The school district will be paying for all incurred costs associated with the background check for this position.  The application deadline is April 1st for the training being held on April 9th.  There will also be another training scheduled in the fall.
