Citrus County, Florida - We are proud to announce Citrus County Schools Superintendent Sandra “Sam” Himmel was named the Florida 2020 Superintendent of the Year by the Florida Association of District School Superintendents (FADSS). Himmel was formally recognized today in Tampa during a joint meeting of FADSS and the Florida School Boards Association.
FADSS Chief Executive Officer and Florida Senator Bill Montford introduced Himmel to a room full of superintendents from around the state and dozens of school board members from surrounding school districts, including every member of the Citrus County School Board. “Those who choose to pursue the path as a public-school superintendent do so not for the glory, but rather the opportunity to make a positive difference in children’s lives,” states Montford. “Sam is an asset to the association and her leadership is valued by her colleagues throughout the state. In addition to her role as superintendent, Sam is also a strong community advocate who volunteers her time to numerous organizations for the betterment of her community,” adds Montford.
“We are truly blessed in the state of Florida to lead our kids to where they need to be,” says Himmel as she spoke in front of fellow superintendents across the state. “Nothing gives me more pleasure than to stand up in front of a group of people and say ‘I’m a superintendent of public education.” Himmel then accepted a plaque and roses from FADSS President and Pasco County School Superintendent Kurt Browning.
“Sam Himmel is an outstanding superintendent with a singular focus and commitment to student success,” states Browning. “Sam is not only an exceptional superintendent with a proven track record of success; she truly epitomizes what a good superintendent should be and is very deserving of this recognition.”
Himmel will now travel to the American Association of School Administrators’ National Education Conference in San Diego to represent Florida superintendents and vie for the national title.
