At today’s School Board workshop, Director of Community Relations and Strategic Initiatives, Darrick Buettner, presented the Citrus County School District’s Strategic Priorities for the 2025-2026 school year.
Superintendent Dr. Scott Hebert’s vision is focused on five key priority areas: Safety, Academic Achievement, Career Planning, Customer Service & Communication, and Student Accountability & Engagement. These priorities were developed after Dr. Hebert’s 100 day listening tour and in collaboration with district leadership to ensure continued excellence and growth across all schools.
Highlights include:
- Improved coordination for after-school safety, including consistent Safe School Officer coverage.
- A consolidated safety technology system under one elite vendor.
- Focus on core academics including reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Art, JROTC, CTE and other electives still play a vital role in education.
- Expanded career planning tools like Xello at the secondary level and the introduction of “Toolbox for Tomorrow’s Leaders” for middle school students.
- Development of a strategic growth plan for Career & Technical Education (CTE) and academy programs.
- Launch of Citrus 6, a district-wide standard for customer service.
- Enhanced communication through ParentSquare, staff email updates, and a new weekly video message from district leaders.
- Greater student accountability with consistent enforcement of the Code of Conduct and discipline matrixes.

“These strategic priorities will guide our focus and allow an efficient use of resources as we work to ensure every student is safe, supported, and prepared,” said Superintendent Dr. Scott Hebert. “We are excited to move forward with purpose and clarity.”
