
4-H Public Speaking Contest Inspires Confidence and Knowledge
The Central Ridge Community Center became a stage for youthful brilliance this week, as Citrus County's elementary and middle school students showcased their remarkable public speaking skills at the annual 4-H Public Speaking Contest. Over two days, young speakers captivated audiences with their confidence, poise, and insightful presentations.
On Monday, March 3rd, 2025, the spotlight shone on the middle school division. Sixth-grade students from all four public middle schools, Seven Rivers Christian School, and Saint John Paul II Catholic School took their turn at the microphone. Joseph Fernandez from Lecanto Middle School delivered a powerful message with "Honor Your Dream," earning him first place. Siya Barad, also from Lecanto Middle School, provided insightful commentary on "Social Media: Disconnect to Reconnect," securing second place. Aiden Smith from Seven Rivers Christian School educated the audience on "Common Phobias in America," earning third place. Danny Missina Griffin from Saint John Paul II Catholic School received honorable mention for his detailed presentation on "The Middle Ages."

The following day, Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, the energy shifted to the elementary division. Students from all public elementary schools, along with Seven Rivers Christian School and Saint John Paul II Catholic School, took to the podium, delivering speeches that were both informative and engaging. Addison Keen from Seven Rivers Christian School charmed the audience with "The Secret Life of Bees," earning her first place. Lucy Hart, also from Seven Rivers, inspired with "Heroes Don't Always Wear Capes," securing second place. Alexander Chavez from Citrus Springs Elementary transported listeners to "The Majestic World of Elephants," earning him third place. Demarco Evans of Central Ridge Elementary received honorable mention for his passionate plea for a "Cancer Free Future."
