Doug Dodd was born and raised in Inverness, Florida, went through the public school system in Citrus County and graduated from Citrus High School in 1983. He went on to attend college at Florida Southern in Lakeland, Florida where he played on the men's tennis team and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

n 1987, Doug was hired as a Deputy Sheriff with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office. He served ten years in the role of School Resource Officer and had assignments at Lecanto High School, Lecanto Middle School, Citrus High School, and Inverness Middle School. He was awarded the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce Service to Youth award in 1997 for his work in teaching and coaching students.

Over his twenty-six year career which finished in February, 2014, Doug was promoted through the ranks at the Sheriff's Office obtaining the rank of Captain. In his work as the director of the Sheriff's Citizens' Academy he saw over 2000 Citrus County residents graduate from this public learning opportunity. He implemented a high school Citizens' Academy class as well as help start an Alumni Association for graduates. Doug was also tasked with agency accreditation and helped lead the agency to national accreditation status in 2007.

Doug considers himself to be a life-long learner and knows the importance of education. In 1994 he received a second Bachelor's degree, this one a BA degree in Criminal Justice from St. Leo University. Then in 1995, Doug completed his Master's degree in Education at the University of Southern Mississippi. He is a 2001 graduate of Leadership Citrus and a 2003 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Doug has experience in public budgeting and finance and also has knowledge of personnel matters from serving as a Human Resource Director. He has also been an instructor for the Criminal Justice Academy at the Withlacoochee Technical Institute.

Doug has been active in the community and in his church. He coached high school tennis for ten years and has coached girls' volleyball and softball as well as Little League baseball and Upward basketball. Doug volunteers at Fort Cooper State Park and served four years as President of the Friends of Fort Cooper. He has served as the President of the Florida Sheriff's Caruth Camp Board of Associates and was Treasurer of the Florida Association of School Resource Officers. Doug has been married for 29 years and has four children, three of whom have each graduated from Citrus High School and are in college, and one of whom is in 7th grade at Inverness Middle School. He currently serves on the boards for Youth Leadership Citrus, Citrus Memorial Hospital, the Gold Shield Foundation, and the Florida High School Athletic Association.

Doug was elected to the School Board by winning the primary election in August, 2014 and took office in November, 2014. In December, 2016 Doug was recognized by the Florida School Boards Association for becoming a Certified Board Member after completing extensive training in boardsmanship, school finance, policy governance, and personnel issues..
